Huawei strengthening its presence in US, to benefit Taiwan network equipment makers

China-based Huawei Technologies will further strengthen its presence in the US market after recently signing an agreement to supply US-based WiMAX operator Clearwire with WiMAX base stations and related equipment, hardware and software, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

Clearwire plans to set up more than 20,000 WiMAX base stations, which will create a significant market for WiMAX CPE products in the US, the sources commended.

Taiwan-based Alpha Networks has said its shipments of WiMAX CPE products started gathering momentum recently, whereas Gemtek Technology expects its shipments to expand significantly starting the end of third quarter, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
