Novatel Wireless Introduces Second Phase of MiFi Developer Program

Intelligent Platform Enables Innovative Applications and Increased Value.

SAN DIEGO, -- Novatel Wireless, Inc., (Nasdaq:NVTL), a leading provider of wireless broadband access solutions, announced the second phase of the MiFi Developer Program. Available to select software developers and enterprise customers as part of the Novatel Developers Lounge, the MiFi Developer Program provides a rich set of application programming interfaces (APIs) and technical support for the creation of value-added software applications on the MiFi platform.

Developed to add value and mature the MiFi platform, the second phase of the program enables selected developers to access the intelligent platform on board MiFi, including Linux OS, memory, WiFi, flash memory, MiFi status, SD card, GPS and more. The developers selected for this phase of the program will be provided with resources, including comprehensive API's to the computing resources on board and detailed programming guides. Developer candidates for this phase of the program can submit applications through the Novatel Developer's Lounge.

With support for Novatel's NovaCore Software Development Kit (SDK), MiFi is capable of hosting advanced software applications on a Linux-based operating system. NovaCore was designed to enable the development of specialized software applications, including location based services (LBS), connectivity management, device personalization, local time management, roaming, data protection, multiple device support and a variety of additional interfaces.

Leveraging MiFi's ample storage capacity, processing power and geographical location support, software developers will be able to deliver innovative mobile applications to consumers and the enterprise. Recently, a Novatel partner, Nomadesk, a developer of award-winning on-demand file sharing software, used the SDK to develop a Web UI to access cloud storage, providing both SD access as well as user options to easily synch to the cloud allowing additional secure storage.

Alcatel-Lucent has adapted its OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian solution by porting it as an application to the MiFi platform. The NLGmobile security platform addresses mobile employee security and vulnerability threats by leveraging 3G networks and an automatic VPN to provide always-on remote management, protection, tracking and "remote kill" functionality even when the laptop is off or offline. By interoperating with encryption and patch management vendors, NLG delivers 24/7 protection of corporate information and proactive zero hour patches for fast response to security threats. Now IT staffs have full visibility and control of all remote assets and can protect sensitive data on employees' mobile laptops, anytime, anywhere. Alcatel-Lucent has chosen MiFi development platform to be their primary device to host their NLG application.

Eye-Fi, maker of the world's first wireless memory card for digital cameras, works seamlessly with MiFi to allow users to easily and instantly upload photos and videos from wherever they are via MiFi.

"The expansion of the MiFi developer community provides limitless opportunities for developers to innovate, mature and add value to the intelligent MiFi platform," said Rob Hadley, CMO, Novatel Wireless. "With Novatel's global reach and carrier relationships, the development of innovative applications will provide enhanced functionality in multiple global markets for both business and consumer users."

Novatel Wireless is currently working with its technology partners to create a variety of personalized applications and media for consumers, as well as remote mobile device management and security solutions for enterprise customers.
