CHT to invest NT$12.8 billion in optical fiber networks in 2010, says paper

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) will invest NT$12.8 billion (US$395 million) to expand its optical fiber networks in 2010, including the procurement of GPON (Gigabit-capable passive optical network) equipment for the first time, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

Taiwan-based GPON CPE makers will benefit from the expansion project as CHT plans to allocate 65-70% of the projected capital for procurement from domestic suppliers, the paper noted.
