AT&T Launches Emerging Devices Web Site to Connect Device Manufacturers with Industry Leading Network Solutions

Site Features Go-To-Market Planning Tools and Testing and Certification Programs.

AT&T*, which offers the nation’s fastest 3G network and unsurpassed choice in devices, applications and operating systems, announced the launch of an emerging devices web site designed to help manufacturers quickly establish a working relationship with the carrier and to navigate easily their device, network and go-to-market needs.

The site, www.att.com/edo, will serve as an entry point into the emerging devices organization for consumer electronics and next generation device manufacturers interested in connecting devices to AT&T’s nationwide wireless network. The site offers a complete suite of resources to investigate the right business model, network options, product specifications, and potential customer care and distribution needs to ensure a seamless, accelerated product launch.

“A dedicated web site enables us to put a face on the emerging devices organization,” said Glenn Lurie, president – emerging devices, resale and partnerships – AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “It helps identify who we are, and also promotes a nimble, faster, and more intuitive experience for the manufacturer who may not have experience in the wireless sector. It is an asset for us, but more importantly, we hope a resource for those who have an idea for a wirelessly connected product and need a trusted hand to help guide it to market.”

Since it began certifying non-stock devices in 2005, AT&T to date has certified more than 370 wireless hardware units for its network, enabling customers to access a range of new, innovative solutions to increase the efficiency and productivity of their operations. These solutions include wirelessly enabled rugged handsets and laptops, healthcare tracking tools, personal navigation units, and meter-reading, vending machine, and home security monitoring devices.

Visitors to the AT&T emerging devices web site will have an opportunity to learn more about the organization and its focus, meet the emerging devices leadership team, and explore AT&T business models, network options, the product certification process, and customer care and distribution offerings.

The site offers an intuitive seven step process to launch a device, from creating a market plan to market launch. In between, visitors can determine specifications for the product, engage the emerging device team, match a pre-certified module to their specific device using the Module Matching Tool, and gain access to the developer tools within the AT&T Control Center, powered by Jasper Wireless, using the AT&T M2M Developer Kit.

The site also features product use cases, which outline the various business model relationships including retail, wholesale and hybrid.

An innovative, proactive, early leader in M2M communications, AT&T created the emerging device organization in October 2008 to expand its reach in the consumer electronics area.

Today’s launch of the emerging devices organization web site is the latest example of AT&T’s commitment to driving innovative wireless capabilities into a wide variety of devices beyond traditional handsets for businesses. In the past year, the group has secured numerous deals to wirelessly enable devices, including netbooks, eReaders, digital photo frames and personal navigation devices.

The emerging device organization is an extension of AT&T’s early leadership in enabling smartphones. To enable constantly growing traffic from these smartphones and emerging devices, AT&T is investing billions to enhance, expand and improve its wireless network.
