China market: China Mobile aims to add 30 million 3G users in 2010

China Mobile had more than five million 3G subscribers as of the end of 2009 and aims to increase the number by 30 million in 2010, according to the company. Taiwan-based handset maker HTC (High Tech Computer) and chipset solution vendor MediaTek are likely to benefit from China Mobile's 3G infrastructure roll-outs, said industry sources.

China Mobile has offered 266 models of TD-SCDMA CPE devices, consisting of 80 handsets, 65 data cards, 58 netbooks, four e-book readers and 59 other devices, the company noted.

In 2010, HTC is expected to roll out at least six TD-SCDMA handsets in cooperation with China Mobile, whereas MediaTek will be able maintain its leading position in the supply of TD-SCDMA handset chips, said the sources, noting that MediaTek currently holds a 60% share of the TD-SCDMA chip market in China.
