Garmin-Asus to unveil first Android smartphone at MWC 2010, says Asustek

The Garmin-Asustek team plans to unveil its first Android-powered smartphone at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade fair, according to Benson Lin, president of Asustek's handheld device business unit.

Garmin-Asustek also aims to launch 4-5 new Windows Mobile or Android phones in 2010 with total shipments targeted at one million units, Lin added.

In addition to the Android handset, Asustek will also debut its new Windows Mobile 6.5.3-based smartphone, the M10, at MWC. The M10 is powered by a Qualcomm 7224 600MHz processor and equipped with a 3.5-inch WVGA resistive touch panel and a 5-megapixel camera plus GPS functionality.

The M10 will be available in the Taiwan market in early February with a suggested retail price of NT$13,900 (US$434.4), Lin noted.

Garmin-Asustek is also scheduled to roll out its first TD-SCDMA handset for the China market in the fourth quarter of 2010.
