Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) plans to sign a cooperation agreement with Ericsson aiming to extend the coverage of its HSPA networks to all areas in Taiwan within three years, according to industry sources.
Total capex for the upgrades will reach NT$3-4 billion (US$93.75-125 million) in 2010, accounting for over 50% of the company's overall capex projected for the year, the sources noted.
Rival carrier Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) also plans to spend NT$3 billion upgrading its HSPA networks in 2010, whereas another carrier Vibo Telecom aims to upgrade its 3.5G networks with a budget of NT$2 billion, added the sources.
