Mobily selects Ericsson’s Smart Services Router

Ericsson has been selected by Mobily to upgrade its Evolved Packet Core (EPC) networks in western region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, using the SSR 8000 family of Smart Service Routers
Consumers will be able to consume four times the current amount of data on the enhanced capacity network
As part of the agreement, Ericsson will also provide systems integration, design and managed services
Etihad Etisalat, Mobily has selected Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) to provide EPC networks in the western region of the Kingdom. As a result, Mobily subscribers will be able to access and consume four times more data than the network was previously capable of.

This partnership not only increases the data capability of our networks fourfold; it also supports our long-term vision of maintaining a highly reliable, efficient and robust network.”

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will upgrade the EPC network with the Evolved Packet Gateway based on the SSR 8000 family to support LTE and prepare the network for Voice over LTE. The enhanced capacity of the network will allow Mobily customers to use and consume bandwidth-hungry applications and services, while maintaining high quality of experience for all users.

Better access to 4G/LTE, which is designed to transfer large amounts of data efficiently and is considered the most advanced ICT technology today, will allow Mobily to meet growing consumer demands for innovative, complex mobile-broadband services.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will also provide systems integration, design and managed services, extending the scope of the existing managed services partnership with Mobily, which started in 2005.

To date, Ericsson has taken 51 contracts for the SSR 8000 family of Smart Service Routers, which is one of the key components of its 4G IP network vision.
