Taiwan CPE makers look to WiMAX operators to boost sales

Taiwan-based network equipment makers are seeking to strengthen their cooperation pacts with telecom carriers to boost sales of WiMAX CPE products as a growing number of telecom equipment vendors – the major business partners of Taiwan CPE suppliers – are shifting their focus to the deployment of LTE or HSPA technologies, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

Nokia Siemens Networks' recent announcement to expand its cooperation with Alvarion in the WiMAX segment indicates that NSN is subcontracting its WiMAX business to Alvarion, commended industry sources in Taiwan.

The shift in business focus by equipment vendors has left Samsung Electronics, Huawei Technologies, Alvarion and Motorola as the remaining four leading suppliers of WiMAX equipment, the sources noted.

In addition to the four equipment vendors, Taiwan-based WiMAX CPE makers should look to tie up directly with WiMAX operators worldwide to sustain their sales, the sources contended.
